cooking, baking, and a home in the making

My January Love List

This year I want to start getting back into blogging for myself. I love sharing recipes and tips and I am going to continue to do that, but I also hope I can make this space feel like a personal outlet because, after 2020 and the start of 2021, I need that right now. I’d like to start sharing things I’m learning, thinking about, buying, eating, and everything in between. I want this space to not only be a resource for other moms to find easy recipes and some novice parenting tips, but also a space where I can write about memories and other things on my mind.

So every month, I’d like to start doing a roundup of things I loved that month. Below you’ll find all of my favorites from this month.

What I’m Cooking

You didn’t think I would start this January Love List off with something not food-related did you? I won’t stray that far from my norm! Right now I am following a super easy meal prepping plan from the cookbook Cook Once Eat All Week by Cassy Joy Garcia. I love it so much that I recently wrote a blog post about it. On Sundays, I meal prep, and then we have quick 15-ish minute meals to put together each night!

What I’m Watching

I can barely recommend this show to you, but I was so enthralled by it that I’m going to list it. We watched The Night Stalker on Netflix this past week and I was constantly thinking about it. It’s disturbing and really sad to watch, but it’s fascinating to watch how detectives worked to solve it and how it inevitably came to an end.

I will also note that hockey is back and so I’m also watching the Red Wings and hoping we start to see some improvement over the past couple of years.

What I’m Buying

My favorite sale this month is the Tubby Todd sale and I’m stocking up. Normally, you can get 10% off your first order through an affiliate link, but this month anyone with a link (whether it’s your first order or 15th), you can get 15% off! Their discounts are pretty rare and so it makes sense to take advantage when you can. Here is my link to get 15% off through January 31! My favorites are the All Over Ointment (the BEST baby product I’ve ever used for baby skin) and the Hair and Body Wash.

What I’m Wearing

Leggings. All I wear right now are leggings. I’m 5 months pregnant and even though I have some maternity jeans, I just cannot get myself to wiggle into them. My absolute favorite leggings are the Aerie OFFLINE Real Me High Waisted Leggings. I have 6 pairs of these babies. Three black, and one each of navy, red, and green. They have very little compression and the fabric is silky and doesn’t attract as much dog hair as other leggings. I’ve heard them compared to Lululemon Align leggings, but I’ve never owned Lululemon leggings, so I can’t confirm. All I know is they’re perfect – pregnant or not.

What I’m Reading

Every year I set a reading goal on Good Reads for at least one book a month. This year I am aiming for 15 and that’s probably pretty ambitious considering I have an 18-month old and another due in June. But I’m still going to try! In January, I read Greelnights by Matthew McConaughey. My brother and his family got it for me for Christmas and I normally read fiction, but I really enjoyed this book. He’s funny and strange in a good way. I’d never have the guts to live as he does, so it was fun to read about someone who takes risks and lives a spontaneous life. I definitely recommend it!

What Willa’s Loving

Willa turns 18 months on January 29 and she’s starting to get her own likes and dislikes and opinions and I LOVE IT. Right now she loves Cocomelon (thank you Netflix!) and still loves books. She sits and ‘reads’ all her books every day. Our favorites are Llama Llama Red Pajama and Goodnight Moon. She also loves bubble baths so I got her a bath book and that has been a huge hit.

And that’s my January Love List! What were your favorites from January? Let me know in a comment!
